Men of great accomplishment often rise from humble beginnings. It’s households that have little that develop men and women who understand hard work, initiative, selflessness, charity and brotherhood aren’t just political buzzwords, but the foundation of leaders with character and conviction—the foundation of leaders like Jim McCune.
Jim McCune has spent his entire life in the Puget Sound area. Raised by Mac, a single father, life was not easy. Mac McCune had only a sixth-grade education, and was further hindered by a back injury he suffered while fighting for our country during World War II.
Mac settled his family farther south in the Puget Sound area after taking a job driving a tractor for the county Parks Department. When Jim was in 4th grade, Mac was finally able to move the family out of their roach-infested home into a home in a housing park.
Life without a mother was difficult for the family. But with the help of caring neighbors and teachers, Jim made it all the way through elementary and high school.
Jim McCune learned a lot from his father about community service. As he grew up, his father was involved in coaching Little League baseball and junior football, both of which Jim participated in. Even though players often couldn’t afford uniforms or equipment, Mac, a man of little means, always made sure each player had what he needed.
Now a successful independent businessman and salmon distributor, Jim has also proudly followed his father’s footsteps in dedicating time to making a difference in the lives of youth. He has coached youth basketball, been active as an Assistant Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts, worked in the Awana program, and assists periodically with a boys’ Sunday School class at his church in Orting.
A lifelong resident of Puget Sound, Jim McCune is a successful small business owner and dedicated father. But the hallmark of Jim McCune will always be public service.
Jim has volunteered as a bus driver, helped with food banks, and also with community outreach programs by his church. He has been a member of the Kiwanis clubs, and is currently a member with the Eatonville Chamber of Commerce, Graham Business Association, the Back Country Horsemen Association of Pierce County, and the Pierce County Republican Party.
Like his father, Jim McCune is a man who has overcome challenges…a man of strong character…a man with Solid Values and Solid Integrity.
